Media Students Embark on Academic Trip to Metro TV

Students from the Media Management class of the Department of Liberal Arts and Media Studies at Heritage Christian University embarked on an educational visit to Metro TV, one of Ghana’s leading private television stations. The trip was organized and led by Mr. Bubune Malik with the support of the HoD of the Department of Liberal Arts and Media Studies, as part of the practical component of the Media Management course. The purpose of the visit was to provide students with practical exposure to broadcasting operations and deepen their understanding of media management structures, production processes, and the realities of the Ghanaian media landscape.

Reception and Tour

Upon arrival, the students were warmly received by the Metro TV team and taken on an informative guided tour of the station’s key operational areas. These included the television control rooms, news and entertainment studios, and radio production spaces, where students observed both live and recorded production environments. They learned about the roles of technical and creative personnel, such as producers, directors, camera operators, sound engineers, and presenters, and gained insight into how equipment like cameras, teleprompters, sound consoles, and lighting systems are used to deliver quality content.

Interaction with industry Professional

A major highlight of the visit was an interactive session facilitated by Mr. Nathaniel Laryea, a respected media professional. Mr. Laryea, together with his team, led engaging discussions on essential aspects of media management, including media market analysis, revenue generation models, media regulations, audience engagement, leadership styles, and the operational challenges of modern broadcasting. Students asked questions about competition in the media sector, digital transformation, branding, and career opportunities in media, leading to a rich exchange of ideas.

Benefits to students

The interaction reinforced classroom learning and provided students with a real-world perspective on how media organizations operate and survive in a competitive environment. It also inspired students to pursue excellence, creativity, and ethical practice in their future media careers.

The educational visit to Metro TV organized by Mr. Malik Bubune, was a highly enriching experience. It successfully bridged theory and practice, enhanced students’ appreciation of media operations, and offered valuable inspiration for their academic and professional growth.
