PROGRAMME OVERVIEW
The MSc. in Accounting and Taxation is a one-year graduate programme designed to develop professionals with advanced technical expertise for addressing complex challenges in taxation and fiscal governance, accounting and financial reporting. The curriculum integrates theoretical depth with practical application, equipping graduates to enhance tax compliance and strategy, strengthen revenue administration, improve financial reporting quality, and support evidence-based organisational and policy decision-making.
The programme also provides a robust foundation for professional certification with the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation Ghana (CITG).
LEARNING OUTCOMES AND COMPETENCIES FOR
MASTER OF SCIENCE IN ACCOUNTING AND TAXATION
- Apply national and international taxation laws, regulations, and fiscal policies to the computation, planning, and strategic management of personal and corporate tax obligations.
- Apply contemporary accounting theories, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and professional accounting practices in resolving accounting and taxation issues.
- Analyse and interpret financial statements to support organisational decision-making, performance evaluation, and strategic financial planning.
- Evaluate the implications of evolving accounting and tax regulations, including ethical standards, compliance frameworks, and anti-avoidance provisions in domestic and cross-border contexts.
- Design and conduct independent research using appropriate quantitative and qualitative methodologies to address practical challenges in accounting, taxation, and fiscal policy.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- A good first degree (First Class to Second Class Lower) in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
- Applicants holding a first degree below Second Class Lower with a minimum of two years industry experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Holders of recognised professional qualifications such as CIHRM, ICAG, ACCA, CIMA, CIM, ICSA, CIT, CIAMC, or their equivalent may also be considered for admission.
