Master of Arts in Christian Studies

Overview

The Master of Arts in Christian Studies (MACS) is intended to educate men and women who have an approved first degree/diploma in any field other than theology and ministry and/or who have met the entrance requirements (see below), but who desire graduate training in ministry and theology. This degree is built for students who want an essential understanding of Scripture, theology, and ministry. The programme aims to produce relevant, informed, and faithful leaders who can serve in their chosen vocations, churches, institutions, and communities.

Aims and Learning Outcomes for
Master of Arts in Christian Studies

To provide students with key theological and ministerial foundations for responsible, faithful, and embodied thinking and practice of the Christian faith.
To expose students the basic understanding of Christian scripture, doctrine, history, and ministry practice in its unity and diversity.
To equip students with beginning wisdom necessary for a lifetime of learning how to think and act theologically in ministry.
To develop students who strive toward deeper integration intellectually, morally, emotionally, and spiritually for ecclesial and community service.
To challenge students to lead in their communities with critical, reflective, and ethical comportment.

Graduates will be able to articulate key biblical and theological foundations of Christian tradition and ministry in a variety of different contexts.
Graduates will be able to demonstrate broad understanding and thoughtful analysis of Christian theology, and practice.
Graduates will be able to engage constructively in teaching, conversation, and collaboration for ministry with professionalism and wise discernment.
Graduates will be able to integrate Christian doctrine, faith, and discipleship with life and work in various vocational contexts.
Graduates will be able to contribute innovatively to the growth of individuals, churches, and communities in alignment with the Christian vision of the good.
Graduates will be prepared to engage in further graduate research in the field if desired.
