As part of the maiden celebration of the International Students Week at Heritage Christian University, The International Students Association in collaboration with the office of Dean of Students organized a panel discussion and a display of national solidarity. The event brought together international students and staff to share experiences, foster connections, and celebrate the rich diversity within the campus body. It was a moment defined not just by academic pursuit, but by shared humanity and spiritual growth.

Finding Belonging in Faith
During the discussion, members expressed deep excitement about joining the Heritage community. Many students highlighted that their decision to study here was driven by more than just curriculum. They spoke passionately about the university’s Christian values and principles. For these students, the campus offers a moral framework that aligns with their personal beliefs.
The sense of community and belongingness was a recurring factor for many of the panel members. International students often face the fear of isolation when moving to a new country. However, the panelists noted that Heritage provides a supportive environment and they feel welcomed not as outsiders, but as integral parts of the university family. This warmth helps them settle in faster and focus on their educational goals.

Navigating Cultural Challenges
The dialogue also provided a safe space to discuss the realities of life abroad. Students shared personal stories about cultural shocks and challenges during their formative days. Adjusting to new food, weather, social norms, and academic expectations can be overwhelming.
Students indicated that members of the Heritage community have shown support and commitment to holistic student welfare, especially for them as international students.

Unity in Diversity
The highlight of the session was the introduction of the various nationalities represented. Students stood together, holding up their national flags in solidarity and happiness. It was a visual representation of unity in the community. An atmosphere filled with color and pride as flags from Cameroon, Nigeria, Uganda, India, USA, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Togo, and Ghana were displayed.
This gesture symbolized that while their backgrounds differ, their purpose at Heritage is shared. The diversity of the group strengthened the overall community rather than dividing it. It served as a reminder that global perspectives enhance the learning environment for everyone.

Different Cultures, One Community
The theme: “Different Cultures, One Community”, proved that diversity is a strength when grounded in mutual respect and shared values. The President of the university, Dr. Samuel Twumasi-Ankrah, commended the association and the office of the Dean of Students for put together the event to foster unity in diversity which depicts the core value of community of Heritage Christian University.
