The Rationale

As part of our commitment to providing students with experiential learning opportunities, the School of Engineering, Technology, and Applied Sciences at Heritage Christian University organized a memorable industrial field trip to the Accra Digital Center on Tuesday, 15th April 2025. This initiative aimed to expose students to real-world applications of their classroom knowledge in computing and engineering disciplines. It also served to help them build networks with key industry players.

Orientation and Presentations

Upon arrival, representatives from the Accra Digital Center gave an insightful presentation on the center’s mission and the services it offers to academic institutions. Key highlights included:

  • Entrepreneurship and IT Training Support
  • Internship and National Service Placement Facilitation
  • Support for student-led IT innovation projects

Moreover, students learned about ongoing government initiatives such as:

Industry Engagements

Several resident IT companies housed within the center held interactive sessions with students. These engagements offered valuable insights into how classroom knowledge is practically applied in the tech industry. As a result, students gained exposure to career paths, industry trends, and various opportunities available after graduation.

Facility Tour and Networking

Following the presentations, students were taken on a tour of the digital center’s facilities. This hands-on exploration allowed them to observe firsthand the work environment and technological resources used by industry professionals. The event also provided a platform for networking and mentorship, with students actively engaging with tech professionals and company representatives.
