The Heritage Nursing and Midwifery Association (HeNMA) has been officially launched at Heritage Christian University (HCU) in a colorful and inspiring ceremony that marked the start of a historic journey for student nurses and midwives on campus.
The event brought together university leadership, faculty, staff, students in an atmosphere of purpose, pride, and praise.

A Message of Vision and Conviction
The highlight of the launch was a powerful keynote address delivered by the President of HCU, Dr. Samuel Twumasi-Ankrah, who emphasized the significance of HeNMA as more than a student association—it is, he noted, “a platform where faith meets science, where mission meets professionalism.”
Dr. Twumasi-Ankrah paid tribute to the pioneers of the School of Nursing and Midwifery including Dr. Paul Danquah, Prof. Ernestina Donkor, and Dr. Elizabeth Baku, whose leadership laid the foundation for the school’s rapid growth since receiving its accreditation in 2023 and 2024. With over 450 students now enrolled in Nursing and Midwifery, the President affirmed the university’s commitment to shaping not just professionals, but compassionate, morally grounded caregivers.
He challenged students to rise above mediocrity and view their training not simply as a path to a certificate, but as preparation for a lifelong calling. “When others step back,” he concluded, “may you be the ones who step forward.”
The Dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Prof. Ernestina Donkor challenged the students to carry the lamp of Florence Nightingale in all they do and bring healing and comfort to a hurting world.
The Dean of Students, Prof. Ebenezer Ayesu emphasized the need to keep the values of Heritage at the heart of the association to inspire the entire community and beyond.
HeNMA President’s Stirring Address
In an equally stirring speech, Mathew Magarloa Masabial, the founding President of HeNMA, encouraged students to “own the association, build it, and rise with it.” His address echoed themes of leadership, collaboration, and service.
“Today isn’t just about jollof and juice,” he joked to laughs. “It’s about history in the making. We’re not just launching an association—we’re launching a legacy.”
He emphasized that HeNMA belongs to every student and should be used as a platform for growth, innovation, and advocacy. Citing Proverbs 16:3, he reminded his colleagues to commit their plans to God as they build the future of healthcare together.
Founding President Mathew Magarloa Masabial inspired attendees to:
- Take ownership of the association
- Foster collaboration
- Prioritize service
